Let us look at some tips for creating a course curriculum that would suit your online course –

1. Define the transformation process

When you are creating an online course, you are not just teaching or educating but you are bringing them into a transformation, you are helping them acquire skills. Your learners are here to acquire a skill they want to learn and acquire. They say online courses are a shortcut to transformation and that transformation is simply that you’re bringing your learners from a point where they do not know about that skill or have minimal knowledge and experience about it to a point where they learn and acquire the skills. For example, you are taking a photography class, there are learners who have a camera but do not know to use it or aren’t well versed enough with the mechanics of the camera. In such a situation, you online course acts as a transformation process for those learners, they learn to use the camera also they get quite good at photography skills.

2. Think about your transformation

‍You can take a step backwards and think about the transformation you had from not being able to use the camera to being an expert at it. You need to think about your transformation and reverse the scenario. For this step, you need to get back to your student’s shoes, as that is the time period that would help you remember the procedure you had gone through and create a curriculum accordingly. The things that were difficult for you when you were a student are kind of easy for you now as you’ve transformed into an expert or somebody who has the experience to actually teach others. When you are thinking about your transformation, write about every single step that you took to reach where you are right now. Once you’ve sorted all the steps together, tone them down and pull out the points that you think are logical now for your online course.‍

3. Create lesson content

‍Now that you’ve divided your steps, it is a step now to create them into lessons. Create lessons plans that would suit the potential audience of your course. You might decide your online course to have some 8 or 10 lessons and each lesson having different content, videos and written content etc., depending on how you decide to provide your content, it can be in an audio-visual format or written format or any other format you prefer.

4. Get feedback

Before you finalize your course curriculum you can create a prototype. You could share it with somebody who is an expert in the field. You could get constructive feedback and further work upon it. If you are an influencer, you could also share about your online course to your audience and ask them for a feedback on what they think about it, the courseware or the curriculum and you could further make changes accordingly. They could give you recommendations about it. You could also offer a discount for a few of the people who went through your courseware the first.

5. Study your potential learners

This is an essential part in online course creation. You need to study your potential learners, figure out they would like and what they wouldn’t like. You need to make sure that your course curriculum is structured in such a way where the learners complete your course till the end, where the learners are interested in your course and stay connected until they complete and acquire the skills they enrolled for. Think of a group of people who are going to really benefit from your online course. You can also carry out a survey where your potential learners would put out what they are actually looking for in your online course.

Creating a curriculum for your online course that would be ideal for your course audience and further would add to more number of enrollments is essential to keep it on the success rate.
